This is a confusing issue for many new nurses and RN students. The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) allows a nurse to have one RN license with which they can work in the home state and other compact states. As of now there are 33 states participating in Nurse Licensure Compact. So, if you have an RN license from any of these blue states (color blue), you don’t need to transfer your license to work in another state marked as blue. This is very helpful personally and professionally. Apart from saving paperwork and money, it gives nurses freedom to travel and still be a part of their profession, especially in situations where nurses’ shortage affect common people.
